WeatherTech BootTray 16 x 36 inch boot tray

Best Boot Tray (2026): 6 Picks by Size, Material and Floor Type

How we choose products: we compare fit, size and load ratings from each maker’s listing and specs. We don’t claim hands-on testing unless a post says so — see our methodology.

Last updated: October 29, 2026

Quick answer: For most entryways, the WeatherTech BootTray is our overall pick based on listed specs: a 16 x 36-inch tray that WeatherTech says holds up to four large pairs, made in the USA, with channels that the listing says keep the mess away from your shoes. For a natural look, the Anji Mountain rubber tray with a coir insert is the one to get. For a big family or a mudroom, the Trimate 40 x 20-inch tray gives you the most floor space in one piece, and the Fasmov 3-pack covers several doors at once.

Two things matter more than brand: the tray’s size (the listings work out to roughly 9 to 12 inches of length per pair of adult boots) and your floor. Flooring makers warn that rubber-backed mats can stain vinyl, so read the floor section below before you buy a rubber tray for an LVP or vinyl entryway.

How we picked: We compared boot trays on Amazon US by size, material, edge height, number of trays per pack, seller and rating counts, and read the makers’ listings and sites. We checked stock and listings for delivery to New York 10001 on October 29, 2026. We did not test these trays ourselves; this guide is based on listing specs and maker information. Our October 29 search of CPSC recall notices for boot trays returned no relevant results; that is not a safety certification. We left out a popular BIRDROCK HOME tray because our product tool could not load the listing, and trays with only a handful of ratings.

Before You Buy: Check Your Floor

The tray protects your floor from slush, but the tray itself can harm some floors.

  • Vinyl, LVP and sheet vinyl: Armstrong Flooring’s FAQ says it does not recommend rubber- or latex-backed mats, because the chemical (antioxidant) that keeps the backing from becoming brittle can permanently stain the floor, and Shaw’s vinyl care guide says to use mats without latex or rubber backings to reduce possible discoloration. Neither is a test of these exact trays. On vinyl, avoid rubber-backed trays unless your flooring maker approves them; a plastic (polypropylene) tray such as the Trimate or Fasmov is an alternative to consider, but check your own flooring maker’s guidance.
  • Hardwood: keep salty meltwater in the tray and wipe up spills. Bona, the floor-finish maker, lists salt as a possible cause of lacquer instability and cracking in its professional FAQ.
  • Size it to the space: a deep tray (20 inches) takes wide boots but sticks out into a hallway; a 14 to 16-inch tray suits a narrow entry.

Entryway Tip: Set up a full entry station: a doormat outside, a mat inside, and the boot tray next to it. The EPA recommends doormats outside and inside all entryways, and taking your shoes off, to cut down on soil (which can carry lead) tracked into the home.

1. WeatherTech BootTray, 16 x 36 in

Best Overall
  • Measures at 16″ x 36″
  • Made in the U.S.A.
  • Features channels that keep the mess away from your shoes

Why we picked it: Its listed features suit everyday entryway use, and it comes from the car floor liner brand. Per the listing, it measures 16 x 36 inches, holds up to four large pairs of boots or shoes, has channels that keep the mess away from your shoes, is made in the USA, and cleans with mild soap and water. It had 715 ratings at our check, sold by WeatherTech and shipped by Amazon.

Best for: a standard entryway or garage door where four pairs is enough. Who this is NOT for: anyone who wants a decorative tray; it looks like what it is, a molded utility tray.

Limitation: the listing doesn’t give the edge height or the material, so if you have vinyl or LVP floors, ask WeatherTech whether it is safe on your floor (see the floor section above). The listing we checked is brown; check the color options before you order.

2. Anji Mountain Rubber Boot Tray with Coir Insert, 34.5 in

  • Natural Rubber Tray: Our rubber boot tray is made from 80% natural rubber and 20% recycled rubber. This eco-friendly mat…
  • Easy to Clean: Cleaning this rubber boot tray is a breeze—simply shake off any dirt or debris, hose it down with water, …

Why we picked it: It looks like a doormat, not a utility tray. Per the listing, the tray is 80% natural rubber and 20% recycled rubber, with a removable insert of 100% woven coir (coconut fiber) that holds dirt off your boots, and it fits three pairs at 34.5 inches wide. Anji Mountain’s own site also lists 24.5-inch and 46.5-inch sizes. It had 890 ratings at our check, sold and shipped by Amazon.

Best for: a front door where the tray is on show. Who this is NOT for: vinyl or LVP floors unless your flooring maker approves rubber, and very wet, slushy boots: the coir insert has to be lifted out, shaken and dried.

Limitation: it holds three pairs, not four, at the 34.5-inch size, and the coir insert has to be cleaned separately. Cleaning per the listing: shake it off, hose it down and let it air dry.

3. Trimate Extra Large Boot Tray, 40 x 20 in, Grey

Best Extra-Large Tray

  • MULTI-PURPOSE – They are also waterproof pet dog cat bowl mats placement, feeding Mat etc.
  • RAISED EDGE – All-weather trays are molded with 1.25” raised edges which helps contain messes from everyday dirt, pet bo…

Why we picked it: The most floor space in one tray among our picks. Per the listing, it measures 40 x 20 inches with 1.25-inch raised edges, is made of 100% recycled polypropylene, and has ridges that lift boots up so water drains away from them. At 20 inches deep it also takes wide boots or kids’ boots side by side. It had 332 ratings at our check, sold and shipped by Amazon.

Best for: mudrooms, families and garage doors. Who this is NOT for: narrow hallways; a 20-inch-deep tray sticks out into the walkway.

Limitation: the listing is not consistent about quantity: the title reads like one tray, but one bullet talks about “this set of durable trays”. Check the quantity on the listing before you order. It is plastic rather than rubber, so it avoids the rubber-backing issue above, but the material alone doesn’t prove it is safe on every floor; check your flooring maker’s guidance.

4. Azadx Heavy Duty Natural Rubber Boot Tray

Best Heavy Rubber Tray

Why we picked it: A natural-rubber tray that the seller says won’t bend even if you step on the edge (a seller claim; we haven’t checked its grip or stability). Per the listing, the 32-inch size holds three pairs of large shoes and the 42-inch size four, allowing about 10 inches per pair, with a snowflake texture on the surface. It had 252 ratings at our check, sold by Azadx Direct and shipped by Amazon.

Best for: a busy back door where you want a thick rubber tray. Who this is NOT for: vinyl or LVP floors unless your flooring maker approves rubber, and anyone who wants a recycled-plastic tray.

Limitation: the listing covers more than one size, so check which length you have selected. “Less odor” is the seller’s claim; we haven’t smelled it.

5. Fasmov Boot Tray 3-Pack, 30 x 15 in

Best Multi-Pack

Why we picked it: Three trays for about the price of one of the others. Per the listing, each tray is 30 x 15 x 1.3 inches, made of 100% recycled polypropylene, with a raised edge to hold in dirt and water. Use one at the front door, one in the garage and one under the dog’s bowls. It had 287 ratings at our check, sold by Fasmov and shipped by Amazon.

Best for: covering several doors, or splitting boots and pet bowls. Who this is NOT for: a single door with four or more pairs; at 30 inches long, each tray fits about three pairs.

Limitation: the listing doesn’t give the tray thickness, and you get three separate trays rather than one long one. The listing suggests drying the tray with a soft cloth between uses.

6. Mats Inc. Artisan Entry Boot Tray, 15 x 36 in, Slate

Best Doormat-Style Tray

Why we picked it: A boot tray that looks like a stone-pattern doormat. Per the listing, it is a raised-design tray for wet or muddy boots with a rubber-backed, anti-slip base, made in the USA, 15 x 36 inches, and can also be used outdoors as a doormat. It had 51 ratings at our check, sold by Mats Inc. and shipped by Amazon.

Best for: a front porch or entry where looks matter. Who this is NOT for: vinyl or LVP floors unless your flooring maker approves rubber backing, or anyone who wants a long rating history (51 ratings at our check, the fewest of our picks).

Limitation: the listing calls it “water-resistant” and doesn’t give the edge height, so it may hold less meltwater than a deep tray.

How Big a Boot Tray Do You Need?

  1. Count the pairs that come off at that door on a wet day, not on a dry one. Winter boots are bulkier than sneakers.
  2. Allow roughly 9 to 12 inches of length per pair of adult boots. That is how the listings work out: WeatherTech puts four pairs on 36 inches, Anji Mountain three on 34.5 inches, and Azadx allows about 10 inches per pair. These are estimates, so set your own boots side by side and measure.
  3. Check the depth. Several of our picks are 14 to 16 inches deep. Measure the length of your biggest boots and choose a deeper tray (the Trimate is 20 inches) if they would hang over the edge.
  4. Check the edge. A raised edge (the Trimate lists 1.25 inches) holds meltwater; a flat, doormat-style tray holds less.

Rubber vs. Plastic Boot Trays

  • Rubber (Anji Mountain, Azadx, Mats Inc.): look more like a doormat. Avoid rubber-backed trays on vinyl or LVP unless your flooring maker approves them (see above).
  • Plastic / polypropylene (Trimate, Fasmov): both listings say 100% recycled polypropylene and easy rinsing with water.
  • Weight, grip, durability and price depend on the specific tray, not the material alone.

Cleaning Your Boot Tray

Follow each maker’s care instructions. Empty meltwater and grit often so salt doesn’t dry into a crust, rinse the tray (WeatherTech’s listing suggests mild soap and water), and dry the tray, any insert and the floor underneath before you put it back. Take coir inserts out and shake them outside.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best boot tray?

Based on listing specs and maker information, not our own tests, the WeatherTech BootTray (16 x 36 inches, up to four pairs per the listing, made in the USA) is our overall pick. The Anji Mountain rubber tray with a coir insert looks the best, and the Trimate 40 x 20-inch tray gives the most space.

How big should a boot tray be?

The listings work out to roughly 9 to 12 inches of length per pair of adult boots: WeatherTech puts four pairs on 36 inches and Anji Mountain three on 34.5 inches. Measure your own boots side by side, and choose a deeper tray if your biggest boots would hang over the edge.

Can a rubber boot tray stain my floor?

It can on vinyl. Armstrong Flooring says it does not recommend rubber- or latex-backed mats because the chemical in the backing can permanently stain the floor, and Shaw says to use mats without rubber or latex backings. On vinyl or LVP, avoid rubber-backed trays unless your flooring maker approves them, and check its guidance for plastic trays too.

Are boot trays rubber or plastic?

Both. Rubber trays look more like a doormat but are a concern on vinyl floors; plastic (polypropylene) trays rinse clean with water. Grip and durability depend on the specific tray. Two of our picks, the Trimate and Fasmov, list 100% recycled polypropylene.

How do you clean a boot tray?

Follow the maker’s care instructions: empty the meltwater and grit, rinse the tray (WeatherTech suggests mild soap and water), and dry the tray and the floor before putting it back. Lift out coir inserts and shake them outside.

The Bottom Line

For most homes, get the WeatherTech BootTray. Choose the Anji Mountain coir tray if it sits by the front door, the Trimate 40 x 20 for a mudroom or a big family, and the Fasmov 3-pack to cover several doors. On vinyl or LVP floors, avoid rubber-backed trays unless your flooring maker approves them, and empty salty meltwater before it dries.
