If your trailer has electric brakes, you need a 7-way connection and a brake controller in the tow vehicle. A 4-way only runs the lights.
How a Custom T-Connector Harness Works
A vehicle-side custom harness plugs in between your taillight and the vehicle’s wiring (the “T”). A 4-way flat plug then comes out near the hitch. - Check the ground. The white wire must be bolted to clean, bare trailer frame metal.
