Sterilite 56 quart wheeled latching under bed storage box

Best Under Bed Storage (2026): 7 Containers by Bed Clearance

How we choose products: we compare fit, size and load ratings from each maker’s listing and specs. We don’t claim hands-on testing unless a post says so — see our methodology.

Last updated: October 31, 2026

Quick answer: For most beds with more than 7 inches of clearance, the Sterilite 56-quart wheeled latching box (4-pack) is the clear plastic box to start with: it rolls out, latches shut and is the most-rated wheeled box we found. For soft, low-profile fabric bins, the StorageWorks 6-inch containers are the pick NBC Select named best for low beds. If your bed sits only about 5 inches off the floor, the TidyCorner 4.5-inch bins are the slimmest we found, and for a tall platform bed the solid-wood KD Frames rolling drawers are the largest we found.

Measure first: the lowest point under the bed frame, not the mattress height, and compare it with the container’s full height including wheels and lid.

How we picked: We compared under-bed boxes, fabric bins and rolling drawers on Amazon US by listed outside height (the number that decides whether it fits), footprint, material, wheels, lid type, seller and rating counts. We checked stock and listings for delivery to New York 10001 on October 31, 2026. We did not test these containers ourselves; this guide is based on listing and maker specs, one editorial roundup (NBC Select), and storage advice from university extension and fiber-industry sources. Check CPSC’s recall database before you buy; the absence of a recall is not a safety certification. We left out an IRIS WeatherPro gasket box whose Amazon listing doesn’t state its height, and Sterilite’s 60-quart wheeled box (NBC Select’s wheeled pick), which our product tool could not load; the 56-quart below is the closest Sterilite wheeled box we could list.

Before You Buy: Measure Under Your Bed

  1. Measure the lowest point, not the side rail. Organizers quoted in NBC Select’s under-bed storage guide say to measure the area under your bed, including the height and the location of any support beams. Measure the lowest obstruction along the whole path the box will slide in, including center rails, slats and support legs, not just the side rail you see.
  2. Compare with the full outside height. Listings sometimes give the inside or the box without its wheels or lid. Use the outside height including wheels and lid, and leave a little room so the box slides without scraping.
  3. Check the width between the legs. A box has to pass between the legs and supports, and you need floor space beside the bed to pull it all the way out.
  4. Too low? Consider bed risers. The same NBC Select guide mentions risers as an option for low beds; check the riser’s weight rating and how it fits your bed’s legs.

Measuring Tip: Measure in two or three places along the bed, at the head, the middle and the foot. A sagging slat or a center support can be the lowest point, and that number decides which container fits.

1. Sterilite 56 Qt Wheeled Latching Box, 4-Pack

Best Overall

  • Latching Lid Design: Secure latching lid opens smoothly for easy one-handed access, allowing stored items to stay protec…

Why we picked it: A clear, wheeled plastic box with a latching lid, sold as a 4-pack; how many fit under your bed depends on which way they face, the frame supports and room to pull them out. Sterilite’s product page (model 1498) lists the outside size as 33 7/8 x 18 3/4 x 7 inches and the inside at the bottom as 30 1/8 x 15 7/8 x 6 1/4 inches, so it needs a little more than 7 inches of clearance. It had 9,516 ratings at our check, the most of any wheeled under-bed box we found.

Best for: shoes, folded clothes and bedding you want to see through the clear base and lid. Who this is NOT for: beds with 7 inches of clearance or less (we’d allow about 7 1/4 inches so it slides without scraping; that’s our suggestion, not a maker figure), or anyone who wants a box that seals out air: the listing describes a latching lid, not a gasket.

Limitation: at our check this 4-pack was sold by a third-party seller (Spreetail), so check the delivery time and return terms. Roll a full box gently; we haven’t tested how the wheels hold up under heavy loads.

2. StorageWorks 6-Inch Low-Profile Under Bed Storage Containers

Best Fabric Bins
  • Polycotton
  • Equipped with a large transparent plastic lid and an extra built-in label holder, it helps you identify the contents imm…
  • Dust-proof storage bins with 2 metal zippers making for smooth and easy opening and closing.

Why we picked it: NBC Select’s under-bed storage guide (August 12, 2026) names these StorageWorks containers best for low beds and best with handles, and one of its staff says two of them hold her entire winter wardrobe. Per the listing we checked, the option shown was a 2-pack of 33 x 17 x 6-inch polycotton bins with cardboard-reinforced sides and bottom, a clear plastic top, a label holder, two metal zippers and handles on three sides. It had 1,460 ratings at our check, sold by StorageWorks and shipped by Amazon.

Best for: sweaters, coats and bedding under a bed with more than 6 inches of clearance. Who this is NOT for: anyone who needs a crush-proof or pest-tight box; it’s a reinforced fabric bin and folds flat.

Limitation: the listing offers several sizes and pack counts, so check that the option in your cart is the 6-inch height you measured for.

3. Yecaye Under Bed Storage with Wheels and Dividers, 2-Pack

Why we picked it: A fabric bin on a metal frame with four swivel wheels, so it rolls out like a drawer. Per the listing, each one measures 30.3 x 16 x 6.7 inches including wheels and needs more than 7 inches under the bed. It is made of 600D Oxford fabric on a removable metal frame, holds up to 66 pounds, and has a clear lid and two adjustable dividers. It had 525 ratings at our check, sold by Yecaye and shipped by Amazon.

Best for: shoes and boots, or clothes you reach for every week. Who this is NOT for: beds lower than 7 inches, or a room where you can’t pull a 16-inch-wide bin out beside the bed.

Limitation: the frame and wheels can take up some of the height, so compare the full dimensions and stated load, not just the outside height.

4. TidyCorner 4.5-Inch Low-Profile Under Bed Storage Bins, 2-Pack

Best for Very Low Beds

Why we picked it: The slimmest well-rated bin we found. Per the listing, each bin is 33.6 x 17 x 4.5 inches, holds 45 liters and fits beds 5 inches off the floor or higher. It is a linen-blend fabric bin with reinforced sides and bottom, double zippers, handles and a clear top, and it folds flat when empty. It had 2,401 ratings at our check, sold by TidyCorner US and shipped by Amazon.

Best for: low beds and couches, and flat items such as sheets, T-shirts or wrapping supplies. Who this is NOT for: bulky comforters or anything heavy you want to roll; it has no wheels.

Limitation: 4.5 inches is shallow, so a puffy duvet may not fit without folding it thinner.

5. VEVOR Under Bed Storage with Wheels, 4-Pack

Best Plastic 4-Pack with Wheels

Why we picked it: Four wheeled plastic boxes, sold by Amazon at our check. Per the listing, each is 31.7 x 15.6 x 6.9 inches, holds up to 32.6 pounds, has a snap-lock lid, side handles and four swivel casters (two lockable), and the metal frame and wheels come off so the boxes can stack in a closet.

Best for: a set of matching boxes for the space under a bed with a bit more than 7 inches of clearance. Who this is NOT for: anyone who wants a long track record: it had only 52 ratings at our check.

Limitation: the seller calls the plastic crack-resistant and says it “won’t split”; we haven’t tested that, and a 32.6-pound limit per box is lower than the Yecaye’s listed 66 pounds.

6. Sterilite 41 Qt Storage Box, 6-Pack

Best Budget Clear Boxes (No Wheels)

Why we picked it: Plain clear boxes with snap-on lids, six to a pack. Per the listing, each is 29 3/8 x 18 x 6 inches outside, the lids are recessed so the boxes stack, and they are made in the USA and BPA-free. It had 13,783 ratings at our check, the most of any pick here.

Best for: beds with more than 6 inches of clearance, and stacking in a closet or garage the rest of the year. Who this is NOT for: anyone who wants to roll a box out; you slide or lift these.

Limitation: the listing says the snap lid protects against air, moisture, dust and pests, but it is not a gasket seal, so for wool or long-term storage follow the packing advice below. At our check this pack was sold by a third-party seller (Spreetail).

7. KD Frames Rolling Under Bed Storage Drawers, Set of 2

  • FITS UNDER KD FRAMES BEDS: Sized for every Nomad, Charleston and Lexington platform bed, Twin through Cal King (beds sol…

Why we picked it: The largest listed outside size and highest listed load limit among our picks (we didn’t test capacity or durability), for beds with real clearance. Per the listing, each open-top drawer is 36 x 20 x 10 inches, holds up to 200 pounds and rolls straight out on fixed wheels. It is built from solid, unfinished poplar with a slatted bottom so air moves through, comes with a 5-year warranty against defects, and needs at least 10.25 inches of clearance under a bed that isn’t from KD Frames. It had 434 ratings at our check, sold by KD Frames (only 19 left at that time).

Best for: platform beds with 10.25 inches or more underneath, holding blankets, toys or shoes you use often. Who this is NOT for: most standard bed frames, or anyone who needs a lid: open tops collect dust.

Limitation: by far the most expensive pick, it arrives unfinished and needs assembly (hex wrench included, plus a #2 Phillips screwdriver).

Plastic or Fabric? Storing Clothes and Bedding Under the Bed

If you’re packing summer clothes away for winter, or making room for holiday guests and gifts, how you pack matters as much as the box.

  • Store only clean items. New Mexico State University Extension says clothing and other textiles should be stored only when clean, and that clothes moth and carpet beetle larvae feed in quiet, dark places such as storage boxes, so items kept for long periods are especially at risk. Under a bed is that kind of place: vacuum the floor there before you slide boxes in.
  • For pest protection, use a tight container. UC Statewide IPM recommends storing pest-free items in airtight containers to protect them from carpet beetles. A zippered fabric bin keeps out dust, but don’t count on it to keep out insects, and ordinary snap or latching plastic lids aren’t necessarily airtight either.
  • Delicate wool can do better in a breathable bag. The Woolmark Company notes that vacuum-sealed bags don’t let clothing breathe, can trap moisture and aren’t ideal for delicate clothing, while 100% cotton or wool bags are safer for delicate pieces. If you use a plastic box, pack everything fully dry.
  • Bedding: breathable bags, wheeled boxes. Good Housekeeping (April 5, 2026) recommends breathable storage bags for linens and extra bedding to help prevent mustiness, and boxes with wheels so they roll out easily. A breathable bag doesn’t guarantee against mustiness, so pack everything fully dry.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much clearance do you need for under bed storage?

Measure from the floor to the lowest part of the bed frame, including center supports and slats, and choose a container whose full outside height, with wheels and lid, is a little lower. Among our picks, the TidyCorner bins are 4.5 inches tall, the wheeled plastic boxes about 7 inches, and the KD Frames wooden drawers need at least 10.25 inches.

Is plastic or fabric better for under bed storage?

Lidded boxes help keep out dust; for carpet-beetle protection, UC Statewide IPM recommends storing pest-free items in airtight containers, and ordinary snap or latching lids aren’t necessarily airtight. Fabric bins are lighter and fold flat; for delicate wool, The Woolmark Company recommends breathable 100% cotton or wool bags, which aren’t insect-proof. Whichever you use, store only clean, dry items.

Are under bed storage containers with wheels worth it?

Wheels make it easier to roll a full box out, which helps with heavy or often-used items. Wheels and frames can take up space, though, so compare the complete dimensions and stated capacity.

Can you store clothes under the bed long term?

Yes, if they are clean and dry and the container suits the fabric. New Mexico State University Extension notes that clothes moth and carpet beetle larvae feed in dark, undisturbed storage, so check stored items now and then and vacuum under the bed.

Should you vacuum-seal clothes for under the bed?

Vacuum bags can reduce bulk, but The Woolmark Company notes they don’t let clothes breathe, can trap moisture and aren’t ideal for delicate clothing. For wool and delicate pieces, it recommends breathable 100% cotton or wool bags.

The Bottom Line

With more than 7 inches of clearance, start with the Sterilite 56-quart wheeled boxes; for soft fabric bins, the StorageWorks 6-inch; for a very low bed, the TidyCorner 4.5-inch; for a rolling drawer with dividers, the Yecaye; and for a tall platform bed, the KD Frames wooden drawers. Measure the lowest point under the bed first, and pack only clean, dry clothes and bedding.
