How to Choose a Trailer Jack
1. Capacity: Match Your Tongue Weight, With Margin
A jack holds the tongue weight, not the whole trailer. A common rule of thumb is that tongue weight is about 10-15% of the loaded trailer’s weight. That means a 5,000 lb trailer may put roughly 500-750 lb on the jack. Pick a jack rated comfortably above your actual tongue weight, and weigh the tongue if you’re unsure.
2. Mount Type
