The right bike mount for your truck bed depends on two things: your bike’s front axle and your truck bed’s setup. This guide explains the main types of truck bed bike mounts (quick-release fork mounts, thru-axle fork mounts, wheel-on mounts and bed-width racks), what to check before you buy, how to secure the bike, and six mounts that were in stock on Amazon US when we checked. We haven’t tested them hands-on; the details come from each Amazon listing.
Quick answer: quick-release (9 x 100 mm) bike and willing to remove the front wheel: Delta Cycle fork mount (lockable). Thru-axle bike: a fork mount with thru-axle adapters. Keep the front wheel on: INNO RT201 or JOYTUTUS (standard beds) or INNO RT202 (beds with track systems). Two bikes in a full-size bed: the Pipeline 2-bike rack.
Types of Truck Bed Bike Mounts
- Quick-release fork mounts. A small block that bolts to the bed floor, a board or a bar. You take off the front wheel and clamp the fork to it. Most fit 9 x 100 mm quick-release forks.
- Thru-axle fork mounts. The same idea for bikes with 12 or 15 mm thru-axles, usually with adapters for different axle sizes.
- Wheel-on mounts. Mounts that let you carry the bike without removing the front wheel. Designs and installation vary, so follow each rack’s instructions.
- Bed-width multi-bike racks. A wheel-on rack that sits across the bed and holds two or more bikes.
Another option is a tailgate pad, which hangs bikes over the tailgate; see our tailgate bike pads guide.
Before You Buy: Check Your Bike and Your Bed
Your Bike’s Front Axle
A quick-release wheel has a thin skewer with a lever, and the fork has open slots for a 9 mm axle. A thru-axle is a thick axle through closed holes in the fork, usually 12 x 100, 15 x 100 or 15 x 110 mm (Boost). The size is often printed on the axle or listed in the bike’s specs. Match both the axle diameter and the width. The Delta mount below is for 9 x 100 mm quick-release forks only; for a thru-axle fork, use a mount that lists your exact axle size.
Your Truck Bed
- Track systems. Some trucks have C-channel or deck rail tracks along the bed sides. The JOYTUTUS listing names the Tacoma, Tundra, Maverick, Gladiator and Cybertruck as trucks with tracks it doesn’t fit.
- Covers and accessories. Tonneau covers, bed rails, bed racks and roll bars can block rail-clamp mounts.
- Bed width. Bed-width racks need a minimum width; the Pipeline 2-bike rack lists 58.5 in.

How to Mount and Secure a Bike in a Truck Bed
- Pick the spot. Choose a position the rack’s instructions allow, with clearance for the handlebars, other cargo and the tailgate.
- Fork mounts: fix them properly. Use the hardware and method the mount’s maker specifies, on a solid base that is itself fixed to the truck; a loose board is just cargo. If you drill the bed, check what’s underneath first, such as the fuel tank, fuel lines, brake lines and wiring.
- Wheel-on mounts: install and check. Install the rack exactly as its instructions say, then push and pull it to make sure it can’t shift.
- Stop the bike swinging. Use the restraint points and strap method the rack and bike makers recommend, don’t overtighten straps on the frame, and check the bike doesn’t touch the bed sides.
- Lock it. Use the mount’s lock point or a cable lock through the frame.
- Recheck after a few miles. Clamps, bolts and straps can loosen; check them again after the first stretch of driving.
Black Friday Tip and Gift Idea
Black Friday tip: if you plan to buy a truck bed bike mount on Black Friday 2026 (November 27) or Cyber Monday (November 30), check your bike’s front axle, your bed width and whether you have a track system, cover or bed rails now, then shortlist mounts that list your setup. Check the current price on Amazon on the day rather than a “was” price.
Gift idea: a fork mount is a small, useful gift for a cyclist with a pickup, but only if it matches their axle. Check whether their bike uses a quick-release or a thru-axle first.
FAQ
What is the best way to mount a bike in a truck bed?
It depends on your bike and truck. A compatible fork mount, installed as its maker says, secures the bike with the front wheel removed. A wheel-on mount keeps the front wheel on and usually installs without drilling. Whichever you use, follow the rack’s instructions for restraining the bike so it can’t swing.
Do I have to take the front wheel off?
With a fork mount, yes: the fork clamps to the mount where the wheel’s axle would go. Wheel-on mounts, like the INNO RT201, JOYTUTUS and Pipeline racks on this page, hold the bike with the front wheel on.
How do I know if my bike has a quick-release or a thru-axle?
A quick-release front wheel has a thin skewer with a lever, and the fork has open slots (dropouts) for a 9 mm axle. A thru-axle is a thick axle that threads through closed holes in the fork, usually 12 or 15 mm. The size is often printed on the axle or listed in the fork or bike specs. Buy a fork mount that lists both your axle diameter and its width (for example 9 x 100 mm or 15 x 110 mm).
Do truck bed bike mounts require drilling?
Fork mounts usually bolt down, so they need a solid base that is itself fixed to the truck, using the hardware and method the mount’s maker specifies. The INNO, JOYTUTUS and Pipeline racks on this page are listed as no-drill. If you drill, check what’s under the bed first, such as the fuel tank, fuel lines, brake lines and wiring.
Will a truck bed bike rack work with a tonneau cover?
Not always. The JOYTUTUS listing says it doesn’t work with C-channel or deck rail track systems, tonneau covers, bed rails, bed racks or roll bars. Check the listing for your bed setup, and remember that a closed cover limits how tall a bike can stand.
Can I lock my bike in a truck bed mount?
Some mounts have a lock point. The Delta Cycle fork mount can be locked with a padlock. The INNO RT202 has D-rings on its clamps for a cable lock; the RT201 lists a D-ring for tie-down straps and says it works with a standard bike cable lock (not included). A lock slows down a thief but doesn’t make an open truck bed secure, so don’t leave bikes there unattended for long.
